All courses are subject to demand with Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper courses alternating dates if necessary as places fill for each particular course.

You will join She's A Lady at the Opua Marina the evening before the course to get settled on board and introduced to the rest of the crew. We will depart the following morning and return at the conclusion of the course.

Location

The Bay of Islands is located 3 hours drive north of Auckland. You have the option of renting a car and driving yourself, catching a bus, or getting a flight to Kerikeri and a connecting shuttle from there to Paihia and Opua. There are numerous rental car companies in Auckland, and 2 bus companies (northliner | intercity) running regular scheduled services to the Bay. Air New Zealand have 5 flights a day Monday - Friday and 4 flights a day on the weekends.
When you've finished your course why not see how it used to be done with an evening sail on the bay's oldest sailboat, undine

What you need...

clothing

In the Bay of Islands we experience a temperate climate with year-round temperatures ranging from 16 - 20°C during the winter months and from 20 - 28°C in the summer. The nights can be considerably cooler so you need (especially on all the 5 day courses as we have a night passage) appropriate clothing for all weather conditions. It can be shorts and t-shirts during the day and thermals and fleeces at night. A good wet weather jacket would be advisable, wet weather pants and sea boots if you have some. Non marking footwear would be best for on the yacht as well. Other musts are sunscreen (all year round), sunglasses, sailing gloves (although not necessary), hat, towel, toiletries, sleeping bag. If you have your favourite binoculars, hand-bearing compass or hand-held GPS then bring those along too.

food

If you have special dietery requirements, then please let us know, or if you have a special snack treat or drink you can't bear to be without for 5 days then bring it along, as we may not have it or be able to get it for you.

books

Before the course you should order from us or obtain from your local RYA book suppliers the appropiate course notes for your particular course. This includes the RYA Logbook/Syllabus. Please make yourself familar with the notes and brush up on the rules of the road. We achieve more valuble instruction if you already have a good theoretical understanding of what we teach on these practical courses.
